I Have Grandchildren? by Rob Allen

March 7, 2016

“Will memory loss one day cause me to forget my children and grandchildren?” It’s one of the greatest fears that grandparents face as they age and enter retirement.

February 29, 2016

One good hamburger on a bun should negative that, right?  Now do the math! If you do nothing to your diet but keep it constant where it is now–and you do those 10000 steps every day— 7×500 calories =3500 calories a week = 1 pound a week of sustainable weight loss!

Why Baby Boomers Are Their Own Worst Workplace Enemy

February 24, 2016

Originally posted by Lynda Spiegel on The Wall St. Journal’s blog page.

Ageism in the American workplace is a well-documented reality. While it violates the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) of 1967, it is difficult for job candidates to prove that their age was the barrier to keeping their current position or being made a job offer. Anecdotally, baby boomers confirm that despite earlier career success, staying or getting hired after age 60 is difficult, and as hiring managers are increasingly members of the millennial generation, difficult often becomes downright impossible. Is This an Exploding Nightmare or Natural Evolution?

February 17, 2016

The number of children under the age of 5 who are obese or overweight worldwide is an “exploding nightmare,” according to a new report by the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Commission on Ending Childhood Obesity (ECHO).

At least 41 million children now fall into this category, which is 10 million more than in 1990. And while rising obesity rates have long been a health issue plaguing developed countries, globalization and urbanization have driven up obesity rates in the developing world as well.

In 1990, there were 7.5 million overweight children in developing countries, which had doubled to 15.5 million by 2014.

In fact, due to widespread marketing of junk foods and sugar-sweetened beverages like soda, low- and middle-income countries now have more overweight and obese children than high-income countries, according to the WHO report.

Personal thoughts of a first-time Grandpa-by Dr. Ivan Lerner

February 16, 2016

I had a candid heart-to-heart conversation with an amazing young man one Sunday morning. We were sharing breakfast together at the park not far from my home.  While I’m not certain whether my young friend understood everything I was saying, there was certainly a powerful connection between us.  My new-found friend is ten months old.  I call him YoYo, although he is more formally known as Joseph.  He is my first grandchild! Functional Fitness: What Makes it Special? by Megann Hudson

February 16, 2016

Over a lifetime weak structural movement patterns while performing everyday activities will lead to back pain, neck soreness and tightness, knee damage, and other signs of increased wear and tear. These weak movement patterns also create general levels of fatigue and soreness. Through neuromuscular training we can teach the body how to move more efficiently, and strengthen the muscles needed to do so; thereby, correcting painful movement patterns, preventing future injury, and improving performance in everyday activities. This is the foundation of our Functional Fitness program.  It focuses on exercises that improve posture, structural integrity, balance, muscular strength, agility, and consciousness of how to move in a way that is best for your body.
