Growth of Arapahoe County

Between 2001 and 2015, Arapahoe County has experienced population growth of 26%.  In this time period, the number of households in Arapahoe County has increased by 18%, with the average household size increasing from 2.4 to 2.6 persons per household. 

 

During this period, there was an increase in the number of households on the lower and higher ends of the household income spectrum (below $35,000) or above $75,000), while the number of households in the middle range ($35,000-$75,000) decreased over this period.

In terms of wage and salary employment (i.e., excluding proprietors) the top sectors in Arapahoe County as of 2015 are:

  1. Health care and social assistance
  2. Government
  3. Retail trade
  4. Professional and technical services
  5. Administrative and waste services
  6. Finance and insurance
  7. Accommodation and food services
  8. Construction
  9. Information
  10. Wholesale trade

 

If the self-employed are included, the top sectors in Arapahoe County in terms of employment are:

  1. Professional and technical services
  2. Finance and insurance
  3. Health care and social assistance
  4. Retail trade
  5. Government
  6. Administrative and waste services
  7. Real estate and rental
  8. Accommodation and food services
  9. Construction
  10. Other services, except public administration

 

 

Between 2001 and 2015, the highest percentage growth in terms of wage and salary employment has occurred in the following sectors:

  1. Health care and social assistance (75.6%)
  2. Management of companies and enterprises (58.0%)
  3. Mining, quarrying, and oil and gas extraction (48.0%)
  4. Educational services (37.8%)
  5. Administrative and waste services (28.9%)

 

Between 2001 and 2015, the highest growth in terms of wage and salary employment numbers has occurred in the following sectors:

  1. Health care and social assistance (an increase of 17,561 wage and salary workers)
  2. Administrative and waste services (an increase of 6,346 wage and salary workers)
  3. Accommodation and food services (an increase of 4,976 wage and salary workers)
  4. Government (an increase of 6,817 wage and salary workers)
  5. Professional and technical services (an increase of 3,621 wage and salary workers)
