Last Monday evening my wife reminded me that she had recently stopped in for a glass of what turned out to be a particularly delicious wine at a nearby restaurant aptly named The Palate Food and Wine Bar.
Marilyn was anxious for me to sample that wine so we decided to try a Happy Hour at the restaurant. We sat down at the bar but she could not recall the name of the wine she had enjoyed so much. Our waiter recognized Marilyn and remembered that the wine had been a “happy hour” featured selection. He brought the list up on the I-Pad menu and thought it might have been a Handcraft 1913 Pinot Noir. When she still was uncertain of the name, we were offered a taste and, lo and behold, that was the one!
As we sipped away and it was nearing dinner time, we decided to try something with the wine. She ordered a wild mushroom and parsnip soup and, not to be outdone, I ordered the crusted Ahi over crepes. We both decided to split another glass of wine.
Located walking distance from condo at the Landmark, the restaurant has a small lounge and bar area and a moderate sized dining room. What is unique about the place is that the north and west walls of the establishment contain rows of carefully selected bottled wines and dispensers that are card operated for a sip, a taste or a glass of wine. We chose to sit at the bar this evening where we could converse with the exceptionally friendly and well trained wait staff, as we read descriptions of each of the selections on an I- Pad menu. We felt like we were out on a date. We were even able to take in a movie, right next door, when we left. But we had no room for the theater’s free popcorn because of the usually forbidden dessert that we managed to fit into our spontaneous evening out.
As Grandparents on the Go, we would highly recommend the Palate Food & Wine Bar for an adventure in dining that wine lovers and “foodies” will find memorable. It might even make you feel young again.
