Day of Remembrance

February 19, 2017 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Free – $10

The Mile High chapter of JACL will host the annual Day of Remembrance event, which marks February 19, 1942, when President Franklin Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066, which cleared the way for 120,000 people of Japanese ancestry to be incarcerated in American concentration camps during World War II. This year is the 75th anniversary of Executive Order 9066. Our program for the day will feature key speakers and presentations explaining the significance and impact of the event.

Executive Order 9066 was a United States presidential executive order signed and issued during World War II by United States President Franklin D. Roosevelt on February 19, 1942. This order authorized the Secretary of War to prescribe certain areas as military zones, clearing the way for the internment of Japanese Americans, German Americans and Italian-Americans to concentration camps in the United States.
