Besides the very cold temperatures we endured today in Colorado Springs (around 48 degrees) the zoo was enjoyable. Although far smaller than the Denver Zoo, it seems that I was a lot closer to the animals, albeit, behind thick glass or fencing. You can even purchase a little bit of lettuce and feed it to the giraffes. The zoo keeps 17 giraffes and even has a breeding program. The habitats are more condensed, but more engaging to the visitor.
This zoo is literally on a mountain. I’m not sure if there is another zoo that is, but you definitely need good walking shoes for this one. The zoo is located just south of The Broadmoor and I recommend taking some time to walk the grounds of The Broadmoor, should you have the time.
Although I was with my two boys, my daughter-in-law and my nephew, I saw quite a few families with strollers. Make sure you keep your eyes on those toddlers!
The cool air made us rush through some exhibits, but I do plan on going back and spending more time there, when it’s warm!
