November 6, 2018

Listen to my conversation with Alon Shaya , the James Beard award winning chef-owner of Safta, the new modern Israeli restaurant, located within the Source Hotel & Market Hall. His Safta (grandmother in Hebrew) was his inspiration for food, from eating to cooking. Their chefs source local farms and grass-fed lamb which pays homage to the culinary landscape of Israel.

The Arvada Center’s Production of Mamma Mia! is Spot On

By Claudia Carbone

By now, between the long-running Broadway show (14 years) and film (2008) and sequel this summer, everyone knows the storyline of Mamma Mia!. The plot has bride-to-be Sophie preparing for her wedding on the Greek island where her mom Donna runs a small inn. Unbeknownst to Donna, she has invited three men, one who she believes may be her father from reading her mom’s dairy. That’s the “!” in the title and the “dot, dot, dot” in the diary.

Signs and Symptoms of Cancer

August 29, 2018

By Dr. Mark Levandovsky

What are signs and symptoms cancer?

Signs are things that can be seen, heard or at least detected by others relatively easily. Such examples would include weight loss, fever or labored breathing. Symptoms, on the other hand, are much more felt than they are detectable, and are up to the patient to voice concern over. The question most people face when dealing with symptoms is differentiating between complaining about something that’s more or less normal and something that indicates illness. After all, a constant headache may just as easily be a sign of frustration with something external,  instead of an internal illness.

July 26, 2018

By: Kayla Harris

Maintaining flexibility, mobility, and vitality can be extremely difficult for older adults as they navigate the aging process. Seniors who have little to do may give in to their isolation and inactivity, which can produce rigidity in the limbs, a weakened core, and even muscle-mass shrinkage. It’s an all-too-common state of affairs for elderly individuals, and it’s why yoga and meditation are such ideal alternatives for seniors. They’re disciplines that can make a tremendous difference in your mental outlook and physical condition.

Interview with Mayor Hogan

May 24, 2018

Publisher’s note: The interview below was originally published in A New Outlook Magazine, October 2016. I was privileged and honored to have spent time with Mayor Hogan, who recently passed away from cancer.  Mayor Hogan was extremely generous with his time.  He was Aurora’s champion. Mayor Hogan passed away May 13, 2018. My condolences to his family and the city of Aurora.

Interview with Mayor Steve Hogan

I was pleasantly surprised that the mayor came to greet me in the waiting area. I expected his assistant to retrieve me and bring me to the mayor’s office. However, Aurora’s mayor, which has 375,000 people, which used to be considered a suburb of Denver, is very hands on. During our 30 plus minute interview, he didn’t strike me as someone who depends on others to get the job done. [Read more…]
