After earning a whopping $170.1 million over opening weekend in North America, Batman vs. Superman: The Dawn of Justice has quickly made its mark around the world.
This was the sixth best movie opening of all time, yet many people are asking why. The critics haven’t been shy to show their hatred towards the movie, getting a 28% on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite all the bad rap, the world hasn’t been able to take their eyes off the legendary battle between the two best superheroes of all time. Being a Batman fan since the day I was born (my Dad, instead of saying “I’m your Father”, said “I’m Batman”), I was anxious to slide into the comfortable seat at the UA Colorado Center Stadium 9 with an Icee next to me on opening weekend as well. I anticipated that Batman (played by Ben Affleck) would show his normal characteristics of taking down bad guys in the shadows, and turn them into the police, yet I was wrong. Batman takes on a different role, with a more aggressive approach. Aggressive might be too kind of a word to describe his actions, as Batman decides to brand his Batman logo onto his enemies chest to get information from them. That would make me talk! Another surprising action was how far Batman was willing to go to get rid of Superman. Some people take a grudge too far! This leads to the other main character in the movie, the one and only Superman (played by Henry Cavil). Superman had been taking a lot of heat from the press, because the amount of destruction he causes around him, in saving civilians. We still have our friendly neighborhood Superman, using his same characteristics from the Man of Steel (which took in $117 million in its’ opening weekend). In the movie, Bruce Wayne was personally affected by the destruction Superman caused, and vows that he will take him down. When Superman finds himself in a tricky situation set up by his number one nemesis Lex Luthor (played by Jessie Eisenberg), he has no choice but to fight Batman to the death.
I was disappointed a bit that Wonder Woman (played by Israeli actress Gal Gadot) was in the movie for just a short time. I guess it was just to introduce the audience to her upcoming stand-alone movie. I was stunned by the ending in this ultimate gladiator fight of the two most popular heroes of all time. The answer of who is the better hero might be an question that will never be answered, but I’m still a fan. It’s just another opportunity to have an Icee. My recommendation? Go see Batman vs. Superman.
